End of the Year

My brain is in burnout mode. I’ve spent the past several days almost entirely in my bed because every time I looked at the computer screen I started having an anxiety attack. I haven’t been able to bring myself to do anything.

I hate this depression bullshit, so I’ll spare you the details and do this End of the Year meme instead.

Happy New Year, everybody.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? I’ve been single for over 6 months for the first time in 6 years. It’s really weird. I also started painting and knitting and working from home.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t think I made any last year – I usually don’t. I’m not making resolutions, but I have plenty of goals for the coming year. Mainly to be more creative and independent.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Cousin E. The Monster will be a year old on New Years!

4. Did anyone close to you die?A couple of friends died, but I wasn’t really close to any of them. Also, my kitten, Karma.

5. What countries did you visit? I didn’t visit any other countries.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? Oh jeez. My license. A car. A place to live besides my mother’s house. Independence. Work. A boyfriend? Ha.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Honestly, I can’t think of any specific dates (aside from The Monster’s birthday.) I know I got dumped in June and was hospitalized in July and had to move back home in September…

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Surviving the loony bin. Stopped cutting for the most part.

9. What was your biggest failure? Ending up in the loony bin in the first place…

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I guess you could put it that way…

11. What was the best thing you bought? He wasn’t bought, but the best thing I got was my kitten, Romeo.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? I’m gonna go with Cousin E’s. She’s taken to being a new mommy quite well. :)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and sad? The Annoyance, definitely. She’s just a miserable, rotten cunt no matter which way you look at it.

14. Where did most of your money go? Cigarettes.

15. What events did you get really, really, really excited about? Going to see Holly in November.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Hm. There’s a few. “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Foundations” by Kate Nash, “Almost Lover” by A Fine Frenzy, and “Addicted” by Saving Abel.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. happier or sadder? Sadder, but I’m working on it.
b. thinner or fatter? Thinner, thank goodness.
c. richer or poorer? Poorer. I fail.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Work. I need money.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Freaking out. I fail again.

20. How will you be spending Christmas? I spent it here at home. There was a lapse in bullshit for 20ish minutes while we opened presents and then it started again after. Same as always.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with? Bobbo! :D

22. Did you fall in love in 2008? Nowai. Quite the opposite, actually. I’ve kind of given up on the male species for the most part, though there is someone I find pretty neat. :x

23. How many one-night stands? Zero. I’m not that kind of girl.

24. What was your favorite TV program? Deadliest Catch! And House.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I strongly dislike a few people I didn’t at this time last year…

26. What was the best book you read? The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath or Uglies by… I don’t remember who. :x

27. What was your greatest musical discovery or rediscovery? Kate Nash? I listen to a lot of different music in phases, but I’m pretty sure she’s the newest. Or A Fine Frenzy! She’s new and good too.

28. What did you want and get? A kitty!

29. What did you want and not get? Independence.

30. What were your favorite films of this year? Only one I can think of is Dark Knight.

31.What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I… don’t remember. I don’t think I did anything at all. I was 22.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Getting my license, a job, and a car.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? I… wouldn’t. O_o It’s comfortable. And a lot more girly and less black than ever before. BE PROUD, DAMNIT!

34. What kept you sane? My Aunt. Clonopin. And Sweet Mary Jane.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most/least? There aren’t any that stand out. I always have a thing for Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, though.

36. What political issue stirred you the most? Marijuana law stuff.

37. Whom did you miss? My Uncle. My ex for a while. Andrea for a while. Holly. My other Uncle. My dad(&co.).

38. Who was the best new person you met? Hm. I think the only new person is Bobbo, although I sorta knew him already. O_o

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008: Trust your instincts; you’re probably right. Relationships are bullshit.

40. Do you have any lost feelings of others. Eh?

41.Quote a song that sums up your year: “My heart carries the pain of a brain I can’t explain. Am I insane? Am I insane?” (Rehab – It Don’t Matter)

I think everyone is feeling down a lot, I guess that’s what happens at this time of the year (Holidays and all).

But for some reason I feel pretty darn good this year, so heres for hoping some of my good luck rubs off on you.

Can totally relate about computer = anxiety attack and depression. ^_^ Anyway, I’ve always wanted to try knitting, but I don’t think I have the patience for it. And The Bell Jar! I’m about to borrow the book from a friend, and I’m looking forward to reading it soon. :)

    Happy new year!

Depression is not fun…it has been debilitating from time to time. I think the last break down I had was in August ‘08. I could not leave my bed or my home…it was serious. Since my divorce, everything came to fruition. I had not admitted until after scaring the crap out of myself with the darkest thoughts I ever had…not even my fiction or poetry could have matched.

I feel a lot better. I am on Lexipro, and go to the shrink once a month. I do have days, but I manage. It will get better. If you have to force yourself to do at least 10 or 20% while in the doldrums…try to. It is better than nothing.

I have not seen a new blog (got sent again from Despair). Are you okay?

I feel the same way. I have lost all faith in the opposite gender, but I still can’t help daydreaming about this guy (I’ll stick to the dreaming, though. I am pretty sure he’s an ass when it comes to relationships..)

Also, uglies – that’s the science fiction novel by Scott Wester-something-or-other, right? I have thought about reading it as it sounds really good.. Is it?

I think this is a good list to look at in the beginning of 2009 and challenge yourself to live the year so you can answer this quiz in 12 months with some great inspiring answers.

C’mon! Cheer up! I also got a kitten of my dream, it’s so smart and affectionate. Better than any man!

Feel better. Depression is consuming. Immerse yourself in a creative project or a crowd of people who always hope for the best. Maybe it’ll help you recover.

depression is mostly felt when you stick to the idea that you are depressed (or keep on thinking that you have something to depressed with)…
just find somethings to let your mind escape the thoughts of being depressed…
    ;p

Hope the new year has found you in a better mood. I hate depression too, but being bipolar I have to deal with it.
