The Facts About Prostitution
While you may see prostitution in movies and TV shows, the ugly world of prostitution may be lost on you. While we may see one part of this act, we are not shown the big picture and it is up to us to listen to those who know about it, have researched it and those who have lived through it in order to get the details and truly understand what is going on around us.
In all reality, prostitution is an act of violence which can be traumatizing.
Prostitution is most often an after-effect of childhood sexual abuse and incest with 85% of those who are involved in prostitution have reported it; there are most likely many others who have never reported their sexual abuse to be used in the survey. It is believed that because of a person who is sexually abused as a child is the reason why the average age of enterting prostitution is 13 and a half years old. While childhood sexual abuse is traumatizing enoughg on a person, most escorts who have been abused as children go on to simply be sexually abused by either their clients and most often their pimps.
The prostitution industry is by far one of the ugliest industries out there, yet sadly, so many are resorting to working within it; most out of desperation. The long-term effects of prostitution, not to mention what led them there in the first place, are frightening and tell tales of abused pasts and a future having to live with the same abuse. These long-term effects do not wear off, nor do they get any easier for the woman. Prostitution undoubtedly hurts women and is a direct violation of human rights.

Facts are difficult to swallow but they are realities which should be faced. I think they spend the most difficult life on this planet. As always we ignore facts and all of us shall be suffering some day.
Hi! I also have research prostitution. I have known several sex workers, aka Prostitues, I have spent many hours observing them while they worked here in Los Angeles, I have used their services. Your article is not incorrect, it is Incomplete. Contrary to what you say on your article, the sex workers whom I have known and whose services I have used, (1) were all over the age of 21, (2) were intelligent and educated single moms who needed to work, some of them were housewifes. (3) None of the sexworkers that I have known demonstrated or displayed any signs of Emotional Trauma or Psychological Instability. (4) Not one of them showed any signs that they had suffer Violence or Abuse. (5) And NOT ONE OF THEM had a “pimp.” (6) Not one of them were being forced to work as sexworkers. This is the rest of the picture of “the facts about prostitution” Thank You, Armando Quintana, Los Angeles, CA.
thanks for sharing…
Yes it is the oldest business right from the inception of human being but still something hurts our mind when we dig deep into their lives.
This is the bitter reality and the wrong side of real life picture. I know there are millions who earn their bread in this way but this is not the right way.
@Armando
What you are discussing are ‘escort’ girls/women who do it for extra cash inspite of being well off. thats not the ‘normal’ distress prostitute the author is talking about,which i am sure is in a majority
I just found your site today and you have some great discussion here. I think it is difficult to discuss prostitution in a country that makes it entirely illegal and yet still deals with it on a day to day basis. We moralize through our laws but then are unable to face and deal with the reality and the worst of the problems.
